The new Power Rangers movie is definitely going full force with its choice to update everyone’s looks. This morning the first image has appeared of the five Rangers. There’s no cheesy costumes this time! This very alien-like armor is much more advanced and futuristic than the spandex costumes of the past.
Director Dean Israelite said “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis. These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.” The five epic teens will be played by Becky G (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), and RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger).
The Power Rangers movie, set to hit theaters on March 24th, 2017, has got a lot of buzz lately, both good and bad. The split between fans seems pretty 50/50 for those in favor of the new take on the 90’s classic, and those opposed. Recently a photo of the new Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks, was released and fans didn’t seem too sure about the new look. It’s definitely a more updated and futuristic take on the evil intergalactic Space Witch.
Andrew Menzies, the production designer, said “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume…You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”
