New season of Sword Art Online announced

written by Alex Lopez October 15, 2017

Sword Art Online fans rejoice! Season 3 of the popular anime is coming.

Sword Art Online

The announcement came during the Dengeki Bunko  Fall Festival on Tokyo a couple of weeks ago. The last season of the anime came in 2014, so fans have waited for a while. While no release date is set, season 3 will follow the Alicization arc of the anime. The Alicization arc covers volumes 9-18  of the manga series. The story involves Kirito as he starts a new job with Rath, a private firm developing a new type of FullDive equipment. While innocent enough, it turns out that Rath is developing AI for military purposes. Turns out that Kirito’s job is to influence the AI to be more human. However, the more Kirito finds out, the more dangerous the job becomes.

Much of the original cast is coming back. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu will return as Kirito and Asuna respectively. No word on the English cast yet, however, it could be safe to assume the English cast will be back as well. Aside from the plot, there is not much information to go on. Hopefully there will be more information in the near future. Until then, Season 1 and 2 are out now for those who need to catch up on Netflix and Crunchyroll.  Time to binge!

Sounds off, geeks! Are you excited for the new season of Sword Art Online? Let us know in the comments.
