Activision, the company behind the unique idea of bringing physical characters to life in a virtual world, is set to release Skylanders Imaginators to consoles this October.
Well known for their concept aforementioned above, Activision has taken the gaming market by storm, leading many other companies to pick up the idea of the physical/virtual crossover gaming in the way of small, readable figures and it was recently announced that Disney would cancel their version (Disney Infinity) later on this month leaving the market open more advanced ideas to fill the void.
The concept for the game was based on the fact that Activision was receiving many pictures of fan created Skylanders, ranging from simple sketched figures to full fledged professional drawn characters, with everything in between.
According, to Destructoid, the demo for Skylanders Imaginators had a feel of Diablo, in which the player was able to chose out of 10 classes (tanks, casters or brawlers) and allowing them to fully customize their character for gameplay. This covered the body of the character, voice lines, etc. All you needed to do was tap a creation crystal which you could obtain through loot.
Skylanders Imaginators has that same dungeon crawl feel, where loot is random and you are able to run maps multiple times to acquire every goodie there is to get. Also, in adding to the customization of the characters, Activision decided to add both Sensei and and Villian characters. They add more level caps, which is necessary to complete the game, as well as bonus levels and the ability to acquire more character slots. However, it was mentioned on Destructoid that the company plans to release 10 characters with the launch of Imaginators.
Skylanders will be available this October for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox one and Wii U!
