The New Zelda Game May Not Launch With the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Gamers that are anything like me were hoping to pick up the new Zelda title, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” along with their Nintendo Switch in March 2017. I have bad news. Nintendo tipster Emily Rogers has reported a rumor that BotW won’t be available during the Switch launch. Again, this is just a rumor as of the writing of this article, but Eurogamer has also reported the same thing.

It sounds like Nintendo wants to launch the game as bug-free as possible, which is a breath of fresh air in a gaming world filled with huge launch-day patches to fix buggy games that were rushed to release.

We still don’t have an official launch date, a price for the console, or even a list of titles that will be available when the Switch is officially released. Nintendo has come out and said we won’t get any new news about the upcoming console until their special event on January 13, 2017.

This news is obviously crushing to fans of the Legend of Zelda franchise, myself included. I’m sure that the announcement will hurt launch-day sales for the Switch, but I can’t image it will affect the numbers in any really meaningful way. The buzz behind this console is deservedly huge and having a launch-day Zelda game available would only add to that, but I guess we will have to be patient.

Nintendo has given us a ton of content about BotW. They’ve gone on to say this about the title:

Step into a world of adventure:

Forget everything you know about The Legend of Zelda games. Step into a world of discovery, exploration and adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a boundary-breaking new game in the acclaimed series.

Explore the wilds of Hyrule any way you like:

Climb up towers and mountain peaks in search of new destinations, then set your own path to get there and plunge into the wilderness. Along the way, you’ll battle towering enemies, hunt wild beasts and gather ingredients for the food and elixirs you’ll need to sustain you on your journey.

More than 100 Shrines of Trials to discover and explore:

Shrines dot the landscape, waiting to be discovered in any order you want. Search for them in various ways, and solve a variety of puzzles inside. Work your way through the traps and devices inside to earn special items and other rewards that will help you on your adventure.

Be prepared and properly equipped:

With an entire world waiting to be explored, you’ll need a variety of outfits and gear to reach every corner. You may need to bundle up with warmer clothes or change into something better suited to the desert heat. Some clothing even has special effects that, for example, can make you faster and stealthier.

Battling enemies requires strategy:

The world is inhabited with enemies of all shapes and sizes. Each one has its own attack method and weaponry, so you must think quickly and develop the right strategies to defeat them.

What do you guys think of the news? Will this change your plans on when you buy a Switch? What other titles are you hoping to see? Jump into the conversation in the comments below!
