It is a sad day for the gaming community today as Nintendo issued a statement declaring their president for the last 13 years, Satoru Iwata passed away at 55 due to health complications.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.
The gaming community was well aware of Iwata’s past health issues when he was forced to miss last years E3 and shortly after had surgery. Many were concerned his health was deteriorating however he always assured the public he was doing well. Iwata was with Nintendo for long time and went from Director to President in a short span overseeing successful hardware such as the Wii and DS and not so successful hardware such has the Gamecube and the current console, Wii U. He has left a great legacy behind him and he will be missed by many in the gaming community.
It feels strange to know that in future Nintendo Directs Iwata will no longer be leading the charge in getting consumers excited for upcoming games and future hardware Nintendo has cooking up in their labs. Hopefully Nintendo will bounce back strong from this loss.
R.I.P Satoru Iwata
