When Iron Fist debuts its entire first season this weekend, fans of the martial arts superhero shouldn’t expect to see one key factor as to what turned Danny Rand into Iron Fist.
That key factor would be the dragon Shou-Lao, who served as the power source of K’un-L’un, the mystical city that Danny was raised in after the death of his parents. Before Danny, and everyone else in Marvel history to hold the title of Iron Fist, could gain said title, they had to defeat Shou-Lao as part of their final test, harvesting some of the dragon’s power into them to become the Iron Fist. Naturally many, like myself, were looking forward to seeing how the crew would pull this off, but we’re just gonna need to stick with our imagination and the comics for that.
Series star Finn Jones was speaking with Yahoo! News recently and revealed that the fight will not happen because of, you guessed it, the budget.
Jones said that, “I’d love to have the budget for these shows to have a full-on Game of Thrones style dragon. But unfortunately you know, we have budget restraints. That’s the nature of the show.”
Yeah you really would need big HBO bucks for that wouldn’t you? Jones did go on to say that while we won’t be seeing it, that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I mean how else will Danny become Iron Fist? Fighting a mystical grizzly bear? That’s nowhere near as epic as Shou-Lao.
He added that, “We do allude to it in Iron Fist, in a very intelligent way. And definitely in The Defenders… but I think, you know, we’ve got to be realistic.”
Not seen, but not forgotten. I think that’s a fair trade off.
What do you think of the news? Are you disappointed we’re not gonna be seeing Danny’s epic fight with a dragon? Let is know in the comments below!
