With E3 around the corner, more and more developers are releasing important tid-bits and teasers in preparation for the big conference showcasing some of the most anticipated titles of the coming year. There is very little known about the latest BioWare title, Andromeda, but we do know that it will be based outside of the Shepard timeline as well as some sneak peeks into a small leaked pre-alpha video.
Today, Aaryn Flynn, the General Manager of BioWare, released a press release giving some more insight into the latest title.
“With Mass Effect: Andromeda, our team at BioWare is exploring how far they can take this beloved franchise. Yes, we’re building the best of what we all love about Mass Effect – amazing stories, characters and fun third-person shooter combat – and bringing them along with us on the expedition to Andromeda. But we’re also excited to be introducing new features and ways you can enjoy a Mass Effect game.”
The latest game kickstarting a new Mass Effect journey will include “more freedom” – which has always played a part in the games. Space exploration, modes of space travel, and the gamer’s choices on how to play will all have a key role in achieving that level of freedom.
We’ve known for some time now that the new game will not be in the same galaxy as the trilogy. An all new adventure waits in Andromeda with new worlds to explore, new characters to meet, new enemies, and an all new protagonist to identify with.
I am very excited about the announcement that the Andromeda title will be utilising the Frostbite engine. BioWare has always had a unique graphic style that has continued to be ahead of its time within the Mass Effect games so to see this leap into current gen is thrilling.
“As we’ve been playing the game at the studio recently, it’s showing us that we’re taking the game in the right direction. But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be. That’s our commitment from all of us to all of you.”
Their commitment to quality is the main reason behind the delay that has Mass Effect: Andromeda set for an early 2017 release.
On another exciting note, BioWare has confirmed that they will have a huge update waiting for fans at the EA Play Press Event as well as the E3 2016 Press Conference.
