Marvel Comics’ hold on television is soon about to expand further beyond Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, the Netflix shows, the upcoming X-Men pilot and Legion, the Inhumans series, and even their animated shows on Disney XD.
Cloak and Dagger will soon come to Freeform after five years in development, but have now found the actors to play the leading characters. Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It, Ultimate Spider-Man) and Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of, Run All Night) have been cast as the titular heroes.
Cloak and Dagger is based on the Marvel Comics superhero couple of the same name who are from extremely different backgrounds, but find and complete each other. Both of them hold a deep secret that further bonds them together. Cloak can engulf evildoers in complete darkness while Dagger is able to emit daggers made of light.
Of the casting, showrunner and executive producer Joe Pokaski said, “The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”
Fellow executive producer and head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb added that he was delighted to finally cast the roles and that “Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”
Debuting in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 back in 1982, Cloak and Dagger became instant stables in Marvel Comics and one of its most recognizable couples.
