Blizzard has got a new backstory project up its sleeve with the pending launch of the popular FPS Overwatch.
On April 21st, Blizzard released a mini-digital comic that explored some of the intricate backstories of the Overwatch heroes. The digital release focused on the gun-slinging, justice dealing cowboy: McCree, that has an attitude as long as his gun can shoot. Not to mention is spiffy belt buckle that reads “BAMF”, how could you not want to know more about a character like that?
Another short comic followed the tale of McCree and this time it focuses on the character Reinhardt titled “Dragon Slayer”, which opens up with him stumbling into what appears to be a ghost town looking for fuel yet ends up staying to help exterminate the dragons that have taken over.
Each comic goes into the extensive backgrounds of how these heroes came to be the ones you meet in the game. The art style is simplistic with a dream-like colouring that only works to enhance the story line. Blizzard has also made the commitment to its fans that more comics about these intriguing heroes are to come, including characters like Junkrat and Roadhog. Another news bomb they dropped was the release of a graphic novel series, Overwatch: First Strike, that is set to release sometime later this year. Maybe those attending Blizzcon will get to see more!
