John Boyega pilots Giant Mechs in Pacific Rim Uprising

The latest trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising was just released this week. We see John Boyega step back into hero-mode for it. This Legendary Pictures and Universal creation is a visual masterpiece and has me marking the release date on my calendar. Don’t believe me?

‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Cast

Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, son of legendary pilot Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) who gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju”.

Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) and Adria Arjona (Emerald City) have also joined the team along with returning Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi. With Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil) directing and Guillermo Del Toro producing, it will hit cinemas March 2018.

Pacific Rim – 2013

Pacific Rim was released in 2013. Directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Charlie Hunnam (King Arthur), Idris Elba (Thor), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy).

It is set in the future when Earth is at war with the Kaiju, gigantic sea monsters that have emerged through a portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To defeat the monsters, humans unite and create the Jaegers, giant humanoid mechas controlled by at least two pilots.

This is my favourite speech in the film –

At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there is not a man nor woman in here that shall stand alone. Not today. Today we face the monsters that are at our door and bring the fight to them! Today, we are canceling the apocalypse!

Receiving generally positive reviews, the visual effects, action sequences, and nostalgic style were highly praised. Although it didn’t do well at the box office in the United States, it was highly successful in other markets earning a worldwide total of more than $411 million – $114 million in China alone.

Sequels (love them or hate them) sometimes do better than their predecessors. If it is a success, will there be more?

Do you think the film will be as good as the trailer? Share your thoughts in the comments!
