Today fans of the Persona series are buzzing around like anxious children on Christmas morning. On the JRPG series’ website for Persona 5, a countdown clock appeared. What’s this counting down to? Well, nobody is quite sure yet. (Other than the developers at Atlus, of course.)
Fans have already had their hopes up for a while. The fifth installment of the series was originally slated for a September 2015 release, but got pushed back to an unspecified 2016 release, both in Japan and the Americas. In the photo above we have a countdown of 317 hours, 46 minutes, and 59 seconds, which was screenshot at 3:46 pm Pacific. This sets the time to run out in about 13 days. Will it be an official release date reveal, trailer reveal, or some other major announcement for fans of the series?
The Persona series was first introduced in 1996 and has since gathered a very loyal fan base. The series is nestled in the universe of Shin Megami Tensei, which has a seemingly never ending list of titles including Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, and of course Persona. All of these different storylines, though separate, all have the common aspect of collecting and fusing together numerous demons and mythological creatures from world wide lore to create bigger, badder companions. What separates the Persona games is the high school social elements. The protagonists not only fight hordes of enemies, but in between dungeon crawling you are tasked with gaining relationships with classmates to help level up your attributes, making the experience a social simulator and a dungeon crawling RPG. Check out the trailer below.
