For some reason I just can’t bring myself to delete Pokémon GO from my phone. I no longer play it daily, that honor goes to Fire Emblem Heroes. But, I do find myself firing it up every time there is a substantial update or holiday event. Though it hasn’t been able to grip me the way it did when it released, I still get some enjoyment out of catching the ‘Mon. With the latest Pokémon GO update, I may have to go back to playing regularly for a while. Check it out!
The video above highlights the biggest addition to Pokémon GO. Over 80 Pokémon from Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver are now prowling around in your neighborhoods. But the chance to nab a Chikorita or Totodile aren’t the only things coming in the substantial update. Niantic is also adding a slew of other features that promise to enhance you experience.
New evolutions are coming. To this end Niantic says that the Pokémon from the Kanto region can evolve into ones from the Johto region. You’ll be able to find new items at PokéStops that will help with evolutions. Pokémon will also behave differently when you attempt to catch them, which is okay because Niantic is also modifying how you use items.
You’ll also notice the addition of new item carousels that allow you to select Berries and Poké Balls directly from the encounter screen. Hone your skills and catch those elusive Pokémon!
The addition of the item wheel is a blessing. Finally, we don’t have to go to a separate screen in the heat of the hunt to toss berries or change Pokéballs. There will also be new berries added to your arsenal of hunting tools. Nanab Berries will slow a Pokémon’s movements making it easier to catch. Pinap Berries will double the amount of candy you receive if the next catch attempt is a success. You can see what these berries look like in the image below.
Finally, Niantic is giving us an expanded wardrobe in Pokémon GO. New hats, pants, shirts and “other items” are being added to customize your avatar. Exciting!
This will probably get me to play Pokémon GO for a bit when this sizable update hits later this week. What about you geeks? Will this reinvigorate your desire to be the very best? Are you just done with Pokémon GO? Let us know in the comments, and happy hunting!
