Pokemon Day celebrates the launch of the first ever Pokemon games that were released in Japan on February 27, 1996.  Since their release the Pokemon craze has continued to grow gaining popularity through multiple generations.  The latest obsession for Pokemon Trainers has been the wild popularity of the mobile game Pokemon Go.  In order to honor these trainers and their loyalty, The Pokemon Company is hosting an event on Pokemon Go one day early on Sunday February 26.

The Pokemon Go company announced on its Pokemon Go page that trainers should be on the lookout for a special Pikachu wearing a party hat in celebration of Pokemon Day.  Every Pikachu that is caught from February 26 – March 6 will have the special hat and will keep it forever.  This means that after the event is over, the party loving Pikachus will become limited editions.
