The Ready Player One trailer has arrived from SDCC!!
I may be a little biased here, but I loved Ernest Cline’s book. I have read it numerous times and find something new to love about it with every read. Ernest Cline perfectly encapsulates what it feels like to be a geek growing up in the 80’s and 90’s and translates those feelings into an adventure epic that is bound to please almost any geek and Steven Spielberg as director is a perfect match. I always wanted to joyride in a DeLorean and have my own army of Johnny Five robots at my disposal. The trailer dropped today and I feel have been waiting for it for what seems like forever.
Without further ramblings, here’s the trailer.
YES! YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!
Already, it’s more than apparent that Spielberg gets this, Ernest Cline himself wrote the screenplay with Zak Penn and it looks like we’re going to get a pretty decent representation of the book. The Stacks….LOOK AT THEM!! It’s like they lifted the picture straight from the book cover.
We get a few pretty great looks at what’s in store but without any real mention of storyline. But who cares because we get to see the DeLorean like we’ve never seen before, speeding down a road going in an out of hover mode. I’ll be watching that part over and over again. God it looks good!
We get a few cameos too with The Iron Giant, Akira, Freddy Krueger(!) Tron, Ghostbusters, and Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine all getting a bit of screen time too. I’ll wager that there’ll be people finding Easter eggs hidden throughout the movie upon its release. We know Spielberg has the Hollywood clout to get all the licensing rights he needs to make this one huge nostalgia trip for the geeky masses!
