ReedPOP, the largest organizer of events involved games and live pop culture, is adding Gamer Network and its band of events, websites, and video channels to its portfolio. The deal came through in an undisclosed amount.

Gamer Network owns a few different shindigs, from news and community websites to YouTube channels, including big name brands RockPaperShotgun, Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, Outside Xbox, VG247, Digital Foundry and USgamer. The company is also behind the UK’s biggest games event, EGX and the awesome indie games event, EGX Rezzed.

The global head of ReedPOP, Lance Fensterman, commented,

“Gamer Network is one of the world’s leading voices for gamers and gaming culture. The opportunity to be in business with Rupert Loman and the brands, events and team he has created is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Bringing ReedPOP and Gamer Network together, PAX and EGX together – these are the kinds of mash ups you dream of. We are beyond excited to dream up new concepts that will blow the minds of fans all over the world.”

And of course Rupert Loman, founder of Gamer Network, said:

“We’re delighted to join the ReedPOP group. I’m a big fan of PAX and the company culture that Lance has created. The ambition and strategy that we share means we’re extremely excited about what’s next. The combination of our online channels and European events with their internationally-respected US footprint is a powerful one.”

Always positive news when all staff from both companies will remain employed, and a new 11,000 square foot Gamer Network HQ will be set up in Brighton next week. Nothing may significantly change from each of their outlets, but now the same company that owns one of my favorite outlets, Rock Paper Shotgun, is affiliated with the same company that does New York City Comic Con and PAX/EGX events. Sounds pretty neat!

What do you think? Are you a PAX/EGX goer? What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments!
