Man I love the Resident Evil movies! Something about them, the kick assery, the gun play and the absurd plot points have drilled a soft spot in my heart. I’ve got every one of them on blu-ray, yes even Retribution, and usually binge on them once a year. When I heard they were doing a 6th RE flick, I danced a little geek dance of joy (made sure no one was watching). Now we have a few scant details from our friends over at Collider on the production and the naming of the film.

The tentative title of the flick is called the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter which makes me kind of sad as I thought they’d keep pumping these things out every couple years and banking the cash. The series has made successively more money with each sequel short of Retribution. Fans like myself can’t get enough of Alice’s adventures through the zombie apocalypse as she fights the evil Umbrella Corporation. Director Paul W.S. Anderson is still writing the first draft of the movie which means that rumored September 2014 release isn’t going to happen. Oh yeah and just like the last couple, The Final Chapter will be filmed in 3D.

Any of you geeks out there like me and excited for another go round with Alice and co.? Check out a few quotes from Anderson’s interview below.

It’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title.  It may be the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script.

There was still skepticism about whether that was the kind of valid thing to do to that video games to movies.  It was quite soon after Columbine, so it was a video game that was known to be very violent and there was a big backlash against that, and I wanted to make it an R-rated movie and that was very unfashionable at the time.  There was lots of things against it and we poured a lot of love and energy into making the best movie we could.

I have been offered other video games themselves.  I think because I’m probably so associated with Resident Evil, I think there’s probably a reluctance to make another video game movie and I will also kind of feel that reluctance as well.

No, there are no set dates for shooting yet.  I think we’re waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.
