Marvel’s team of rebellious teens against their supervillain parents, Runaways has always had a dedicated following ever since Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona debuted them back in 2003. Now that they have a TV show coming to Hulu, why not bring them back for a new run? Well Marvel is doing just that!
Rainbow Rowell and and Kris Anka are teaming up to revive Runaways as a brand new ongoing comic book.
Rowell in particular is excited as she said, “This is my favorite Marvel book. When [editor Nick Lowe] first reached out to me a few years ago about maybe working for Marvel, it was the first thing I asked him about. The characters and original story by Brian K. Vaughan (Paper Girls) are just so great and so beautifully built. I was really excited because I always felt like there were more Runaway stories and that book should just have kept going.”
The story of the upcoming revival is more or less getting the band back together, minus Alex Wilder since he’s off on the villain side recently in Power Man & Iron Fist. Also bringing major fan favorite Gertrude Yorkes back from the dead, which I am all for because Gert is the best!
Rowell further stated about the book, “At the beginning of this series they are scattered to the four winds and half of them are dead. One of the challenges now is who are they when they’re apart? They got thrown together, but now they’ve been pulled apart. They’re trying to figure out who they really are without each other… This arc is very much about them choosing to be together.”
Well I know I am certainly excited and will be waiting for Runaways #1 to hit in September.
