Running the Ropes: Broken Matt Hardy Legal Battle, WrestleMania Plans

written by Jordan Cobb March 17, 2017

Hello there and welcome to Running the Ropes, we have the most important stories in the professional wrestling world and will be highlighting some of the best matches to have recently happened. Let’s get right too it!

Broken Dispute

Hey its legal disputes, that’s what you came here for right? Well I imagine not, but even outside of the ring Broken Matt Hardy is the most talked about act in the business right now. Ever since leaving TNA, now Impact Wrestling, a fight over the Broken Matt character has come about.

A cease-and-desist letter was sent to Ring of Honor and their PPV carriers, MOMENTS, just moments before their recent 15th Anniversary Show went live saying they were not allowed to have the Broken Matt Hardy character on air, as well as Jeff Hardy’s Brother Nero. In addition, no promotion would be allowed to air footage of them or else legal troubles would come out it.

Now Matt has expressed his displeasure for the situation, but his wife Reby is a little bit more outspoken on the situation on her Twitter account.

This no doubt puts into question which Matt and Jeff Hardy we will see should they make their WWE return at WrestleMania, but we will update you on this more as it happens.

What’s Going on at WrestleMania?

Speaking of WrestleMania it seems that the special attraction match between Big Show and Shaquille O’Neal is still very much in limbo.

More or less at RAW on Monday, Show confirmed that he’s in this year’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but in speaking with Sports Illustrated, it was revealed that talks about making the match happen are occurring right now.

He said:

“I want to do this match. It certainly isn’t on me. I’m serious and dedicated. Whether Shaq has other obligations or business, that’s on him. As far as I know, we’re still trying to make Princess Shaq happy so we can move forward with the match at WrestleMania. I have a lot of respect for Shaq. He’s one of the greatest NBA centers of all time. But here’s the thing, and I say this with all humility, I’m one of the greatest big men ever in the WWE.

“I’m giving Shaq the opportunity to showcase himself at our biggest event of the year. He is an entertainer and he is an attraction, and he is a heck of an athlete. But he’s hemming and hawing saying it’s somebody else’s fault. If you want to do this, come do this. This is something where Shaq saw how great of shape I was in, and he decided to back out. That’s a personal thing on Shaq.”

Show is showing signs of being rather annoyed at the sitation, what with wanting a big WreslteMania moment before he seems to retire and also getting in the best shape of his career for this match.

But that’s for this year, what about WrestleMania 34 next year in New Orleans? Well supposed plans for the main event next year have leaked and it looks to be Roman Reigns against Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship. Boy can I hear a lot of furious typing right now.

Of course Reigns and facing the Undertaker and Lesnar faces Goldberg for the Universal Title at this year’s event, but that doesn’t necessary telegraph what their roles will be for next year’s show. The next year of buildup should be interesting.

As for this year’s WrestleMania, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will defend their Raw Tag Team Championship against Enzo and Cass and Sheamus and Cesaro in a triple threat, Shane McMan will take on AJ Styles, and John Cena and Nikki Bella will indeed face off against The Miz and MAryse in a mixed tag team match. All matches added across RAW and SmackDown this week.

Best Recent Matches

Now let’s take a look at the best matches to happen across the world recently and first I’d love to highlight is Drew Galloway vs. Will Ospreay for the WCPW World Championship in the main event from WhatCulture Pro Wrestling’s Exit Wounds show.

These are two of the hottest talents in the business right now with Galloway continuing to make a name for himself all over the globe with his freakishly insane work ethic. While Galloway looks amazing here, its Ospreay that really gets to shine and show off that he is more than a “flippy guy.”

The match is brutal, intense, and very exciting from bell-to-bell. This match helps show why WhatCulture Pro Wresting is one of the biggest promotions out right now. You gotta watch it, its just great.

Going back to Ring of Honor, I can’t help but talk about the main event from the 15th Anniversary Show between Christopher Daniels and ROH World Champion Adam Cole (BAY BAY!).

The match was the culmination of a great journey for Daniels as he won his first ROH World Title. The man who headlined the very first ROH show finally wins the big one at the celebration of its 15th year. The build up throughout to this was amazing.

Daniels was as good as he’s ever been and Cole perfectly showed why he is one of the biggest names right now. Great performance by both men and just a great way to cap off a huge show.
