Ryan Reynolds: Logan might “break that glass ceiling” for superhero films.
“Logan looks like a movie that might break that glass ceiling,” Reynolds said in the interview. “I know first-hand that it’s amazing. I’ve seen some of it. It’s mind-blowing. It relies a lot on character.”
There’s a chance, however, that Logan doesn’t break the glass ceiling for superhero movies. That honor might go to Deadpool. 20th Century FOX has been running an Oscar campaign for the highest grossing rated R movie of all time. Wolverine himself is on board with Deadpool winning some awards, especially after seeing The Dark Knight snubbed during its Oscar year.
“When I hosted the Oscars, Batman didn’t get nominated, and everyone was talking about it,” Jackman said in another interview with Variety. “It’s a stretch to say these are injustices in life — we are happy and making movies. But I love it when someone like Ryan gets recognized.” He also added, “These big-budget or comic book movies are not easy to pull off.”
Logan is slated to release in theaters on March 3rd, 2017.
In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. A government-type operation is turning mutant children into killing machines. From this, Logan emerges as a mentor to a mutant girl, who has two claws instead of his three.
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Deadpool or Logan break into the Oscars? It seems like one getting nominated might open the floodgates and get our beloved superhero movies some much needed love from critics.
