Based off of the comics of the same name, the show will focus on Sabrina’s occult origins as a much darker tale. Unlike the comedic cult classic we adore, this story will be much more haunting, not unlike Riverdale itself. It will be written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Lee Toland Krieger. We should see it premiere for the 2018-2019 TV season.
Riverdale has been winking at the idea of bringing Sabrina into the more dismal world basically since it started. A rumor has been floating around since shortly after Riverdale’s release for the potential of Sabrina coming in as a guess star. There was even an Easter egg put into Riverdale’s finale with Jughead’s father reading The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic as he sits in a jail cell. Instead however, it seems we’re getting a whole new show, which couldn’t be more exciting. Let your screams of delight commence.
Amidst the occultism and witchcraft, this dark drama paints a much more horrific life for the teenage half-mortal half-witch. The grim reimagining recreates her origin and journey upon the cusp of her sixteenth birthday. It will explore the duality within herself as she fights to protect her family, herself, and humankind from evil sources.
The story’s main big bad, Madam Satan, has yet to be confirmed for the series. Honestly, I’d be more surprised if she wasn’t featured. Casting and characters are mostly unconfirmed as for now. If we know anything about CW is that they love their crossovers (Yes DC, we’re looking at you) so, it’s doubtful that Sabrina would never be seen on Riverdale. Fingers crossed she keeps that white bob because it’s seriously dope.
We’ll keep you up to date with new information on the series as it’s released.
