Yesterday, Samsung sent out invites to its press conference at Mobile World Congress. Today, we’ve stumbled across a report that Samsung will be giving us a glimpse at their upcoming flagship phone. How much of the Galaxy S8 will we see in Barcelona?
The Korea Herald reports that Samsung will show off a 1-minute long preview video of the Galaxy S8 during their MWC press conference. This is despite the fact that the phone will not be the device they reveal during their presentation. The tablet they will reveal may be the Galaxy Tab S3, which confirms my suspicions. Given that tablet sales have waned, even this sneak peek at the S8 should steal the show.
We shouldn’t expect to see the device itself, but rather a teaser. I would be surprised if they give us more than a stylized promo video with lots of shadowy close-ups of curved screens and water splashing around. One burning question I have personally is if they will continue to use the “Next Big Thing” hashtag, or if they will try to reinvent their smartphone marketing.
The Galaxy S8 rumor mill is running at full speed, with reports of an Infinity Screen, and two different display sizes – each with curves. Rumors of the “entry” phone offering 5.7-5.8 inches of screen real estate, and the Plus offering 6.1-6.2 inches are mind-blowing. However, an aspect ratio that is a departure from the common 16:9 may keep the width of both devices in line with the current S7 and S7 Edge. If all this is true, we’ll be in for quite the adventure with these devices. Shout-out to Evan Blass and CNET Korea for that crazy information.
The debut of the S8 has been pushed back, really due to the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. The electronics manufacturer typically reveals their flagship S phones at Mobile World Congress. However, this should pan out to be an unusual year for a company looking to be forgiven for their sins. “Unconventional” may be the theme for 2017, which should be a healthy route.
Are you geeks excited for Mobile World Congress? Will Samsung be able to outshine their competitors, who are looking to capitalize on their stumble? Or, are you an iPhone die-hard, who doesn’t really care for anything that doesn’t have an Apple logo on it? Drop them comments here and on our socials! We love to hear from you!
