Most of us at this point have heard about the Samsung Note7 recall. There have been so many sites reporting on it, but nothing was every fully announced by Samsung. That changed as of this morning. With over 1 million phones sold 35 of them have been reported to have faulty battery issues that are causing the phones to catch fire. According to Samsung:

“In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue. To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7. For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.

We are working with our carrier partners to announce the details of the U.S. product exchange program as soon as today. We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.”

Yes, I know only 35 phones out of 1 million is a very small number. I for one am happy that Samsung is stepping up to the plate for such a huge recall and profit lose in order to ensure that we have the safest possible devices. Samsung has said that carriers will be announcing how customers can go about the recall and get their devices swapped out as early as today. So now that is official what do you think? I have been carrying the Note7 since the launch and it has been the best phone to date. As with anything I am sure that there can be bad batches and I think it says something positively that Samsung is taking care of it.

Samsung has also halted the sales of any new Note7 to prevent anyone from having to go through the swap from here on out.
