A pop-up diner in Chicago is prepared to give you all of the nostalgic feels. If you’re a 90’s kid then you probably remember the hit teen sitcom Saved By The Bell. It’s been over twenty years since Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski entered our televisions and our lives, but you can relive all of the love, laughs and teen-angst at this themed diner named Saved By the Max.
An event planner named Derek Berry thought of the diner. Berry had this to say about the project;
“Being, like, a huge Saved by the Bell fan, I instantly thought of where I would like to eat, what would be totally iconic to be in. It’s like the most fun job I’ve ever had. I was up until 3:00 in the morning last night searching ‘Saved by the Bell quotes’ so we can paint [them] on the walls.”
Michelin-star chef Brian Fisher came on to create and perfect the epic 90’s menu. You can expect foods like Mac & Screech, Hash-Morris, a Lisa Turtle Milkshake, and even a Bayside Cocktail. Mario Lopez, who starred as A.C. Slater on the show, took to Instagram about the diner saying “I hear they have a burger called the A.C. Slider.”
The decor of The Max is incredibly iconic, and Berry took the job very seriously. He and his team not only replicated the after school hang out in immense detail, but they added a few special touches of their own as well. You can eat privately in Mr. Belding’s office, or check out Zack’s DJ Booth. “We studied this show and did everything we could to pull these little pieces off and implement them,” said Berry.
Staff will be dressed in red t-shirts with black shorts and will only answer to “Max” or “Kelly”. Tuesday nights will be Saved by the Bell trivia, and Sundays will feature live music from The Zack-Attack, the in house band. The pop-up eatery will be open from June 1st until August 31st. Weekend brunch and late night services will welcome walk-ins, but dinner reservations sold out in less than 30 minutes!
