Last Thursday, on December 8th, EA announced that they will publish Sea of Solitude. This is the latest of EA’s acquisitions under its new label “EA Originals” which focuses on Indie-Games.

Previously, in February 2015, Jo-Mei Games released screenshots and GIFs Sea of Solitude. Quickly after, the game earned itself a following for its stunning visuals.

Showing off its unique art style, the GIFs present a strong sense of atmosphere. As a result, players are reacting strongly to it, and it fits the game’s story perfectly. Sea of Solitude creates a rich environment, narrating the story of a girl who is so lonely that she transforms into a monster. In the game the girl, Kay, wanders around a sinking, deserted city. During the journey she meets other creatures and tries to learn what happened to her.

About the game, the Writer and Creative Director Cornelia Geppert said:

Sea of Solitude is by far the most artistic and personal project I’ve ever created. At times it is very challenging to dig that deep into your own feelings like core fears, longing and anger, but at the same time it is the most fulfilling thing to express those very feelings by putting it to people through art.”

EA announced the new label during the company’s E3 press briefing. The goal of EA Originals is to create games which are “unique, gorgeous, innovative, and memorable.”

In the announcement, EA said:

Sea of Solitude captures the essence of the games we want players to discover through EA Originals.”

However, Sea of Solitude is the label’s second game. At its first press conference back in June the label announced its first game, Fe. Similar to Sea of Solitude, Fe tells the story of a lost cub as it explores an unfamiliar forest.

So what do you think? Do you like the new direction that EA is taking? Do you think Sea of Solitude will be the next Indie darling? Check out the trailer below and let us know!
