We all remember the scene in Winter Soldier when Bucky, played by Sebastian Stan, took Captain America’s shield and used it against him during that awesome fight on the highway. My, how things have changed.
You should also be able to recall that, at the end of Civil War, Chris Evans’ Captain America seemingly abandoned his iconic shield with a heartfelt note to Tony Stark. Once the credits rolled, many were left wondering: could this truly be the end of Captain America? Sebastian Stan, aka the Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes, may have a new alias if his latest Instagram post is anything to go by. We may be calling him Captain America sooner than we thought.
Gone are the signature red, white, and blue stripes. They have been replaced by a singular red star against a metallic silver. A color scheme that mirrors Bucky’s arm. We’ve already heard that Chris Evans may not be coming back as Captain America, but he will remain in the MCU in a different capacity. Bucky taking on the mantle would make sense going forward as it seems Steve Rogers has had his faith in the system he once so proudly protected shaken.
Stan’s shield was made by Shield Labs, a prop company known for making mostly cosplay items. They have other iterations of the shield and posted them shortly after Sebastian Stan was seen walking away with his.
What does all this mean for the MCU? Is Sebastian Stan the new Captain America? In the comics, Bucky Barnes does spend some time as the new Captain after the events of the Civil War. So, seeing this happen in the cinematic universe makes a lot of sense.
What do you geek think? Will Sebastian Stan make a good replacement for Chris Evans’ Captain? How are you feeling about the shield redesign? Let us know what you think all this means in the comments. Stick with DHTG also as we’ll have more on this as it develops.
