With the Tomb Raider movie right around the corner, Square Enix let details slip through HTML source code on their site that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be coming out.
A countdown teaser involving Tomb Raider news was meant to be unveiled tomorrow, but the HTML clearly spilled what it was. The official announcement hasn’t arrived, so the countdown still goes on, but like Superman on Christmas, we already know what’s in the box.
This will be the third game in the franchise since the 2012 reboot following a younger Lara Croft on her adventures around the world. Combined with the 2015 Rise of the Tomb Raider sequel, both games have sold over 18 million copies worldwide.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is scheduled to be released September 14 according to the leak and will be the conclusion to her origin story. Platforms listed so far are the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Noticeably, the Nintendo Switch has been left out, which could just be ported at a later date like many of the consoles games.
Crystal Dynamics, developer of the last two entries, will not be behind this new game. They are working on an Avengers game, instead, Eidos Montreal will be taking the reigns. Eidos Montreal released Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011), Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016), and Thief (2014).
The HTML also gave away that pre-order incentives would be released on April 27. Unless Square doesn’t zip their pants up and let those leak tomorrow too. More info such as images and a trailer is sure to come with the proper reveal tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Update: The Leaks Continue
Square Enix is definitely gonna need a new pair of pants as the leaks are still coming. The teaser trailer has sneaked to YouTube via grainy camera phone. The teaser showcases series staples with Lara being hunted, beaten by her environment and taking in breathtaking views.
