Six Flags developing first mixed reality roller coaster

written by Alex Lopez February 12, 2017

At this point, most of us have ridden on a roller coaster at an amusement park. And some of us have ridden a VR roller coaster. Now, Six Flags wants to combine the two and make your experience even more exciting. Or they enjoy making park attendants clean up puke.

The New Revolution Galactic Attack, based on the Sega Saturn game Galactic Attack, makes use of the Samsung Gear VR headset. Once a rider gets on and puts on the headset, the pass-through camera function will turn on. The rider will be aware of everything around them. A Heads-Up Display will appear, giving riders information such as weapon status, fuel cells and a countdown clock. Once at the top of the ride, the VR portion of the ride kicks in. Riders are transported though a “massive, swirling wormhole” in a VR spaceship, where they will battle against attacking aliens. Six Flags states that “key decisions” will affect a rider’s score, but give no details how. The ride will also have three different endings, so I am sure that hardcore gamers will want to ride over and over again.

At this time, the New Revolution Galactic Attack will be at two Six Flags locations: Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA. I’m sure that if the ride is successful, Six Flags will bring this new attraction to more locations. Looks like I will have to plan a trip to California soon.

Sound off geeks! Would any of you be willing to go for a ride on this roller coaster?
