With E3 2016 in full swing, we’ve been bombarded with tons of games and hardware. From Project Scorpio and the Xbox One S to South Park: The Fractured but Whole, there has been no lack of things to salivate over. But what about the smaller announcements? What about games like State of Decay 2?
State of Decay first exploded on the Xbox 360 with its unique take on zombie apocalypse exploration. From the opening moments to gut wrenching choices, the game was not short on drama. Who can forget the Ranger Station? The Church? They rank up there with some of the bigger budget games. I dare any one to say otherwise.
The great thing about State of Decay was the exploration. Players could go far and open up tons of houses, shacks, tents, etc. to scavenge for supplies. Be careful though as zombie hordes could overcome you quickly. Die and it’s on to a new character. Die again, same thing until there’s no survivors. The game was utterly amazing.
State of Decay: Year One hit the Xbox One later with cleaned up graphics and all of the extensive downloadable content like Lifeline. Fans went nuts and swooped it up in droves which prompted Microsoft and Undead Labs to announce at E3 2016 State of Decay 2.
State of Decay 2 will be a Xbox One/Windows 10 exclusive and I hope will be a part of the recently announced Play Anywhere initiative from Microsoft. The giant leap forward from the original SoD to the sequel will be drop in, cooperative multiplayer. That was the one thing many a geek wished for in the original. Just imagine calling in a pal when you need back up against a particularly tough infestation and then dragging the gear back to home base. But imagine that person not griefing you at the last minute. I may play multiplayer again.
Again, as with the original, State of Decay 2 will keep every choice you make in Trumbull County in its vast memory banks however this time use those to create a larger, more dynamic world. With the power of the Xbox One and even Windows 10, the game world will be larger, the zombies nastier and the choices deadlier.
Geeks, tell me, what are you thinking about State of Decay 2? How many of you bought either version of the first? Do your best zombie shuffle to those comments below but instead of munching on brains, comment away!
