Sony offering up refunds for geeks that are worked up about H1Z1 microtransactions

written by Shane "Geek" Lundberg January 16, 2015

Am I the only one that had great hopes for Sony’s Zombie survival MMO H1Z1? It was great to see them working on a title and saying things like…

“We will NOT be selling Guns, Ammo, Food, Water… i.e. That’s kind of the whole game and it would suck in our opinion if we did that.”

Then as more and more was being worked on during development we see that this is totally not the way this game is going. Sony released the “Air Drop” micro-transaction which would allow everything that was not supposed to be bought above air dropped to the person purchasing. I understand that throughout a game being developed there are going to be changes but to go against the whole outline? Smedly took up arms on Reddit to explain that he does not feel that people were lied to or led to purchasing the game under any false pretenses. Check out his rant here. In the official stream video below you can even hear them say how there will not be purchases for things like “no buying guns ‘n’ stuff”.

I was glad to hear when Sony decided to pony up for people who are upset at these choices and offer up full refunds.

Smedly did however have this to say about immediate changes coming to combat some of the issues…

“We’re going to be making some big changes to [airdrops] in the next day or so. 1) Dramatically widening the radius they come in—it’s too small from what we’re observing. 2) Making sure the chance for guns is a much lower chance so they are much more rare. 3) Upping the minimum number of people on a server to even allow air drops. It’s set at 50 right now and we’re going to at least double it. We are serious about these being server events and contested. 4) Making the plane fly even slower.”

Below you can see the air drop in action. What is your opinion? Do you think this is a good feature for them to keep in-game? Sound off in the comments below while I cool off!
