First thoughts are that it looks good. It has a few good quips and some good action beats. The visuals look great. Chris Pratt seems to be playing the role that he has nailed down in recent years with the cocky daredevil. Washington shines as always as the steadfast leader. It has a great tone about it from beginning to end. Check it out!
As impressive as the trailer is, I still want to hold judgement. The art of making good trailers is part of the cinematic landscape these days. Almost everything has a fantastic trailer attached to it. These fears are subsided a little bit with the names of the cast. Then you add in the likes of Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil) and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead) adds weight to even the lesser roles. The line up looks good and diverse which is always a huge bonus.
Let us also add to the long line of fantastic films by director Antoine Fuqua; Training Day, The Equalizer, Shooter, Southpaw, Tears of the Sun. You have a strong director and a strong cast surrounding the project.
With all remakes comes the inevitable naysayers. While the original was a classic of American Film, it, too, was a remake. Let us not forget that it was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s all time classic Seven Samurai. This new film has Kurosawa credited along with his original writers as the basis for the new script which is a great gesture.
Paint me on the excited side of things. This film is shaping up like it could be something great. Just like how the Coen brothers treated True Grit.
