Mattel's Star Trek Barbie

Mattel is launching a line of Barbie dolls to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the original series of Star Trek. Captain Kirk, Commander Spock and Lieutenant Uhura are all getting the Barbie treatment. They aren’t based on the J.J. Abrams reboot of the Star Trek franchise, but the original series, in which Kirk is played by William Shatner, Spock was Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols played Uhura.

The Spock doll looks particularly awesome, but I wouldn’t say no to all three. I’m really curious to see if they’re extend the product range to include Doctor McCoy, Sulu, Scotty and perhaps a couple of red shirts. If they come out with villains too, I’d be delighted to own a Klingon, or Khan!

Mattel is releasing the 50th Anniversary Star Trek Barbie dolls later this month, and they’ll be available later this month for $35 a pop.
