“Breathe, Just Breathe”
Pinball FX3 has been around for Xbox One since September 2017. Its newest add-on, Star Wars Pinball: The Last Jedi, takes you to a galaxy far far away. Pinball FX3 takes you back to the time when you’d hit up the arcade, bowling alley, or even comic book shop and sit in the corner trying to get the high score on the pinball machine. Every detail is a reminder of that era. The graphics are really good considering it’s a pinball game. I never once saw a glitch or lag anywhere, from the points to the little silver ball. The game also features a cool orange LCD-style screen, just like the old machines. It’s very easy to get lost in this game for hours trying to rack up new high scores.
Pinball FX3 is a free game, and is constantly adding new machines to the game – everything from Portal to Avengers to Carnivals and Legends. However, the newest add-on, Star Wars Pinball: The Last Jedi, offers two new machines.
“I Know This Place”
The first machine you notice is Ahch-To. The machine features many moments from the movie and features of Luke’s island. There are porgs and caretakers scattered throughout the field of view, as well as Luke, Rey, R2-D2, and Chewie. The Millennium Falcon can be seen off in the distance, too. The add-on itself brings to life many moments from the movie played out by these characters as you play. Lines directly from the movie are heard as the characters get up and move around the machine. This machine offers a few new play types as well, like training with Rey to become a Jedi.
We Are the Spark That’ll Light the Fire That’ll Burn the First Order Down
The second machine available to you with this add-on is a mix of the Crait battle and Snoke’s ship the Supremacy, and Ahch-To. Captain Phasma, Finn, Rey, BB-8, Stormtroopers, and Kylo Ren’s ship, are all characters on this machine. There are also fly-bys with TIE fighters shooting across the machine. This, however, can be a little distracting, especially if your ball is behind them. Again, this machine features lines of dialogue and moving scene recreations while you play.
Balance and Energy. A Force.
The new add-on to the game is a lot of fun. Growing up on pinball games, I found myself entranced by the silver ball, trying to beat my own high score. The lights and sounds of the game that try to distract you from getting more points can drive you insane, but as soon as you lose your ball, you want to play again. However, this time, you don’t need another quarter.
