ABC, the television network owned by Disney, and Lucasfilms are reportedly in talks to bring Star Wars to the small screen. During a semi-annual press tour entertainment president of ABC, Channing Dungey, was asked about the possibility of bringing the space opera to TV. When asked about it at her panel during the Television Critics Association‘s press tour she said:
“As a fan, I would absolutely love to say yes. We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise.”
Her response indicates that she would love the idea, but as most things like this go, it is still far too early to confirm its existence. After the panel, Channing was prodded again about the possibility of bringing Star Wars to the network and her answer made the likely-hood of such an event seem even more real. She said it was all really “hush-hush.” Implying that Lucasfilm is like an impenetrable vault, that they “…exists under a big shroud of secrecy.”
There is no official timeline for the show, and Channing Dungey wouldn’t confirm whether the proposed Star Wars project was live-action or animated. While animated may be the easier and cheaper route, hopefully ABC will invest the time and money into a proper live-action show.
Star Wars fans have been wanting to see an expansion of the galaxy far-far-away that goes beyond the boundaries of the film series for a long time. While the saga of the Solos and Skywalkers is engaging, we can’t help but wonder; What else is going on in the universe?
Are you geeks interested in seeing Star Wars come to ABC? Where in the timeline do you think this should take place? Star Wars would fit pretty well into ABC’s lineup along with Marvel’s Agents of Shield .
