What’s the most annoying thing about going to the movies these days? It isn’t just overpriced popcorn and sticky floors. There’s always that one person on their phone in the middle of a film, ruining it for everyone else. In Texas, a 37-year-old man sued his date for doing just that during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2!
Brandon Vezmar filed a lawsuit fit for “People’s Court”, seeking damages in the amount of $17.31. He is looking to to be compensated for the cost of admission to a 3D screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. It may sound like small change, but this is major in principle!
According to Vezmar, his date kept texting during the movie. He says she “activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages”. When he asked her to stop, she refused. He then told her to take the conversation outside. And she did, getting in her car and ditching the poor sap at the theater without a ride home.
The woman, who has yet to be named, responded by saying, “Oh my god. This is crazy. I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody.” Apparently, that was not the case!
The best part about this whole story is that it was their FIRST DATE. The would-be couple met on a dating site and picked out the worst possible place to meet for the first time. Instead of grabbing a latte or a bite to eat like normal functioning adults, they decided to silently sit next to each other in a dark theater. On top of that, the defendant in this lawsuit was on her phone on her first date. Great first impressions all around!
What do you geeks think about this whole situation? Is this just bad etiquette, or is this woman a true menace to society, as Vezmar contends? Let us know in the comments!
