Supergirl Casts More Characters for Second Season

National City is welcoming two classic DC Comics characters onto Supergirl this fall.

First up is Ian Gomez from Cougar Town coming on as Snapper Carr. A supporting civilian to the Justice League in the comics, but now he’s a headstrong newsman who is known for his sharp wit. That and his commitment to hard-hitting journalism help land him a job at Cat Grant’s (Calista Flockhart) CatCo Magazine. This version of Snapper also isn’t afraid to tell people what he thinks of them, even Kara (Melissa Benoist) who finds herself being unexpectedly pushed by his words.

Snapper will be a recurring character, while The Family‘s Floriana Lima joins Supergirl as a series regular playing Maggie Sawyer. Sawyer on the show will more or less be as she is in the comics as a detective, but this time for National City of course where she takes special interests in police cases involving aliens. Similar enough to her role in the comics where she was part of the Science Police in the Metropolis Police Department that dealt with crimes involving metahumans.

Sawyer is a longstanding character from John Byrne’s time on the book back in the late ’80s. Sawyer is also one of the very first openly gay characters in mainstream comic books. Sawyer has recently been involved with and got engaged to Kate Kane AKA Batwoman.

The addition of Snapper and Sawyer certainly make the upcoming second season exciting since Tyler Hoechlin is coming along to play Superman and Lynda Carter is on as well playing the President of the United States. Supergirl is certainly making the most of its recent move to The CW.
