After being a recurring gag throughout the April Fool’s Day season premiere of Rick and Morty, fans have been clamored, nay demanded that McDonald’s bring back the Szechaun dipping sauce! Well we did it guys! It is coming back…but for only this Saturday.
McDonald’s has announced that officially on Saturday, October 7 only, participating stores will be offering Szechaun sauce as one of many sauce options to help promote their brand new buttermilk chicken tenders. In addition to that, you can get a poster of original artwork made for the return as well as the other sauce options one can get with their chicken tenders.
You can find out if your or any nearby McDonald’s restaurants are participating here, but if you can get to it, better go fast because a press release said that it will be available in “limited quantities for a limited run available in restaurant for one day only.”
The obsession over the dipping sauce as mentioned stemmed from the season three premiere of Rick and Morty. Ever since then many have been wanting to have the sauce come back full time. It was first introduced as a tie-in to the 1998 Disney animated film Mulan. McDonald’s did release three bottles of the sauce to fans via a Twitter contest at the end of July. One fan ended up selling it on eBay and it was bought by DJ Deadmau5 for an undisclosed amount. McDonald’s did send one bottle themselves to series co-creator Justin Roiland.

Was the popularity from Rick and Morty strong enough to make this happen? Well in responding to Polygon about that question, they simply said it was “the year’s most talked-about dipping sauce.”
