Willow coming to Blu-ray March 2013!

willow

Finally, one of my favorite 80′s movies is coming to blu ray! Willow has just been announced by Fox\MGM for a blu-ray release in March of next year. I love Willow, it’s directed by Ron Howard, produced and pretty much written by George Lucas, there’s plenty of magic and feel-good moments and it stars a lean, mean Val Kilmer! The basic premise behind the movie is Willow, played by Warwick Davis, finds a baby girl abandoned. What he finds out about the girl is she is the one destined to finally bring an end to the vile reign of Queen Bavmorda, who no one likes. Thus begins Willow’s adventure to protect the girl and join forces with a crazy cast of unlikely heroes. Oh yeah and he has to try to overthrow the evil Queen, no biggie.

The blu ray release will be a remastered version of the classic film, overseen by LucasFilm itself. There will also be some new special features not seen on the DVD version such as a video diary by Warwick Davis and Ron Howard introduced deleted scenes. Willow will release for Blu-ray in a DVD combo pack on March  12, 2013. What an agonizing wait for a classic. They gave us Princess Bride and all was good, so now wait we will for Willow!

Ludicrous Speed? Spaceballs 25th Anniversary coming to blu ray!

THE best Star Wars parody movie, ever,  Spaceballs is getting a 25th Anniversary blu ray treatment this summer. Birthed from the maniacal mind of Mel Brooks, Spaceballs tells the tale of wandering Capt Lone Starr and his faithful mawg (half man\half dog) Barf as they rescue Princess Vespa from the clumsy clutches of Dark Helmet and President Skroob. Along the way they hook up with Yogurt, a wise wielder of the Schwartz. Lone Starr accepts his destiny as a Schwartz apprentice and has to re-save the frail princess from Dark Helmet. Lessons are learned, merchandise is sold, mockeries are made.

There is so much awesomeness in the movie, it’s no wonder why it stands up as a cult classic 25 years later. The mere mention of the Schwartz around fans will bring a smirk, a smile and a chuckle to faces. MGM and Fox are sly in releasing an anniversary edition for the new generation of potential sci-fi geek fans. They also need to appreciate the great John Candy in his comedic prime.

The 25th Anniversary set is packed full of features sure to tickle the funny bone of any geek. How about watching the movie in “Ludicrous Seed”? Yeah, that will be awesome! Fans will dig the new featurette, Farce Yourself! Spaceballs and the Skroobing of Sci-Fi and the film flubs content. Noobs unfamiliar with John Candy will appreciate the John Candy: Comic Spirit featurette as well.

The Spaceballs 25th Anniversary blu ray will hit this summer, August 7th. May the Schwartz be with you! Hit the break for the announcement press release!

Geeky Giveaway: Teen Wolf Season 1

What are the odds that we would have TWO contest running at once? Consider the odds broken, cracked or in someway altered because we’re back with yet another geeky giveaway! This time we have two copies of the pseudo remake of the ’80′s classic Teen Wolf. Instead of trying to remake and possibly destroy a beloved cult classic, MTV\MGM\Fox decided to make an angsty TV drama centered around a loner teen who just happens to get bitten by the elusive werewolf one night. No inherited genes, no sweatbands and no hot naked chicks!

Consider this one a crossbreed of The Vampire Diaries, Twilight and every bay day of high school. The rabid protagonist must fight his inner beast, woo the girl of his dreams, avoid her father – for more reasons than one – and remember to unclog the drain after he takes a shower. Awww, I remember those days.

If you end up winning one of the DVD sets, you can look forward to all 12 episodes, an extended version of the season finale episode Code Breakers, a gag reel, a handful of featurettes and some alternate, deleted and extended scenes. There’s even a “Shirtless Montage” sans the hot chicks – I think. If they’re in there too, sign me up for a repeat viewing!

Itching to get your claws on a set? Hit that break and get your entries in!

Geeky Giveaway: This Means War!

We’re back geeks with another geeky giveaway sure to get your action bones going! Our forever friends at 20th Century Fox have saddled up with two copies of the upcoming spy comedy, This Means War, on DVD to give out to some lucky geeks. Haven’t heard of the flick? First – Shame on you! Second – let’s see what the studio says about it:

They are the CIA’s best, trained for any situation…except one.  Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment plays the ultimate spy game as two best friends fight for the right of one woman’s hand in THIS MEANS WAR, coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download May 22.  Starring Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon* (Walk the Line), Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), the laugh-out-loud comedy gets even better on Blu-ray with three alternate endings that answer the question – what if she chose the other guy?

The world’s deadliest CIA operatives, FDR Foster (Pine) and Tuck (Hardy), are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman (Witherspoon).  Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis – each other.

Jog anything in your geeky brains now? It’s kind of like a mash-up of True Lies and Mr. & Mrs. Smith in my opinion. Reese Witherspoon is smoking fine (as always), plus the chemistry between Hardy and Pine is hilarious! I mean think about it, two spies using the vast resources of the CIA to win the affection of a girl while knocking the other guy out of contention? Who wouldn’t want to do that?

Hit the break to get your chances in….
