Geeky Gadget Review: PowerSkin Cases
Last Updated on Friday, 19 August 2011 02:05 Written by The Geek Friday, 19 August 2011 01:30
Ever get tired of switching batteries? I sure do that is no lie. I personally can burn through ANY phone in half a day. Give me an extended battery…dosen’t matter I will kill it. Recently I got my hands on the the PowerSkin Case for my EVO 4G. At first sight I was not very impressed. It seemed like a normal case with a rubber feel around the edges. Popped the ol’ EVO into the case and immediately noticed there is a plug-in the bottom that actually goes right into your charging port. Now we were talking! Through it on the charger to give it a whole solid charge. Then came the test.
Once fully charged I pulled the EVO off the charger and noticed the charge light was still on. “Wait a minute”! The battery was still receiving a trickle charge from the PowerSkin case. As I went about my day I noticed the light up LED’s on the back of the PowerSkin had my back to let me know how much juice was left before it started burning through my phone’s own battery. From 6:00AM I went until about 4:30PM before the PowerSkin was out of juice. Now keep in mind I am a very heavy user of my phone so this is extreme testing. As my phone finished up and was almost dead I took a look at the clock and what do you know it was 11:45PM. I went almost the whole day without having to plug-in my phone once. AMAZING. No switching batteries, looking for a charger, or mainly not using my phone to avoid it dying. Read on for more and pics…

Red Mere Challenges Mindset on HDMI Cables
Last Updated on Wednesday, 13 October 2010 10:18 Written by baldalbino Thursday, 14 October 2010 11:30
Cable thickness often ties up the backs of our entertainment centers. Red Mere is making a change to the HDMI standards that we are used to.
According to Red Mere this is not done by reducing the size of the cables or by making them more flimsy. Red Mere states that they are using a decoding chip at the end of the HDMI cable that allows for more data to be streamed through the smaller cables than through the bigger ones.
The chip actually fits into the HDMI endpiece that allows for additional data transfer. We will probably see these cables coming packaged with systems by the end of the year or sooner. I think that this is a great option and look forward to taking advantage of freeing up my entertainment system.
