There’s An App For Everything Except For YouTube.

Apple has confirmed that the Google owned YouTube will not be making an appearance in the upcoming iOS 6 update. Monday Apple released a new version of iOS 6 beta to developers and suspiciously YouTube was missing. First this was thought to have been a bug but just like Google Maps the app for YouTube has been removed permanently. An Apple spokesperson gave the following reason, “Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can still use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new app to be on the App Store.”

I can almost understand Apple’s ditching Google Maps in favor of their own Map App but I really don’t see the logic behind not including YouTube. As much as I love my Apple gadgets this is one of their business practices that I’m not crazy about. It won’t stop iPhone/iPad owners from using YouTube it will now just be slightly less convenient accessing it.  With that being said I’ll be first in line to pre-order the iPhone 5 which can’t get here soon enough. Crashing And Malicious Apps Plague Apple

If you have updated any iOS or Mac apps in the past few days you may be experiencing some crashing upon launching certain apps. This is being caused by an issue with Apple’s App store where the application file has become corrupted. Instapaper‘s developer Marco Arment was first to report of the problem after receiving several complaints that the latest update to the Instapaper App for iOS was crashing as soon the app was opened. Arment double checked the code he submitted to Apple but found nothing wrong with it. Soon other developers discovered that their app files were being corrupted as well. The corruption was seemingly happening after being submitted to Apple and before it was released to the public. Many Apps including Angry Birds Space, Yahoo! Search, Maps 3D and of course Instapaper were affected.

Apple not happy with some apps using Dropbox, smites them.

Apple has a mad on for Dropbox it seems. They recently started nuking any apps that include the Dropbox SDK from the App Store. We’re not talking Dropbox itself here, we’re looking at any app that allows you to sync up with Dropbox. Apps that collate data and save it outside your mobile device, productivity apps that allow users to save their work in the cloud and let others contribute, games that backup your info, etc. It’s a nice, tidy list of possibilities if you sit back and think about it.

The reason behind the hammering? Because they include a link back to the Dropbox website! Oh no, the horrors! It seems the company is none too happy with the fact that this enables users to sign up for more Dropbox space without first making sure Apple gets its ~30% cut. The link is especially irksome to the Cupertino folks as it directs users without Dropbox already running to the external site to sign up for the service. The one most people will pick the free version of. So sayeth Apple:

We found that your app provides access to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Specifically, your app enables to user to create accounts with Dropbox and Google.
