Comic Book Character of the Week!
I will be picking one major comic book superhero, team or theme and post my favorite cover art or pin up art of said character to share. I hope you all enjoy this new spotlight feature on Don’t Hate The Geek!
Comic Book Character of the Week: Thanos
Today’s artist: George Perez
George Perez – Thanos
There is not many a true comic fan that does not know the name George Perez. He might not have created Thanos but he sure draws him like he should have. As great as Jim Starlin’s artwork is, George Perez has a talent like no other in the comic book business. George has the ability to take HUGE artistic undertakings and makes an extremely hard job look simple. Buy drawing some of the biggest, baddest most character filled pages, George Perez does it still with such incredible detail. That’s why Perez was the perfect choice to draw what would become one of Marvel’s grandest epics of all time, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet Saga. Check out today’s artist, the great George Perez, showcasing some of the best Thanos artwork ever. Enjoy!
In Infinity Gauntlet Thanos has the Infinity Gems and proceeds to wipe out half of the universe’s souls to appease his love DEATH! This Perez cover has gone on to be one of the best Thanos of all time!
Infinity Gauntlet #1
The telling of the Infinity Gems, top half drawn by George Perez….bottom by Stalin
In these next two scenes Thanos makes good on his promise to Death
Thanos about to make good on his promise
And with the snap of a finger…..half the universe is gone!!

There are very few covers that I totally love like I do this one! Just classic Thanos!
Infinity Gauntlet #5
The Ensuing battle with the Marvel Universe where Thanos beats everyone down and the awesome “walk down” scene with Captain America!
Breaking the Shield!
Thanos vs. The Eternals
Not going to spoil the ending of the book and Ron Lim finished it any ways.

This YouTube video shows leaked Avengers 2: Age of Ultron footage showing Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) in what looks like another heated back and forth between the two. This time about what it really means to be a true HERO and team player. This sets up the heavy theme of Marvel’s mega comic book storyline “Civil War” which has already been announced to be part of Marvel’s next wave of Phase four films. The main war will go down In Captain America 3: Civil War!!
In the comic books (which I will blog about more later) the identification and registration act set by the government is what set the divide between heroes and friends alike in the whole Marvel Universe. The war that is yet to come will be one of Marvel’s most Epic undertakings to date!!
So when MARVEL’s Civil War comes…..”WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?”
Today Marvel unveiled the final structure for their Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it looks rock solid! We’re talking Black Panther, The Inhumans and even Civil War geeks. Hell Carol Danvers is getting in on the action as they announced a Captain Marvel flick for 2018.
The full Lineup for Phase Three is:
- Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016
- Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
- Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017
- Thor: Ragnarok – July 28, 2017
- Black Panther – November 3, 2017
- Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018
- Captain Marvel – July 6, 2018
- Inhumans – November 2, 2018
- Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019
That’s a lot of Marvel action for the next 5 years. Sadly no official announcement was made on Benedict Cumberbatch taking on the role of Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. They did however show off their King of Wakanda, the Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman is real as the leader of the African nation where copious amounts of Vibranium can be found. Panther will make his first Marvel movie appearance in the upcoming Captain America 3, although which side in the movie world he takes on the Civil War remains to be seen.
No casting info for Captain Marvel or the Inhumans were announced but we know they are actively searching. Captain Marvel will be in the same vein as Guardians of the Galaxy and I wouldn’t put it past them if they went ahead and introduced her in the will-be-awesome sequel. I’m definitely intrigued by the Inhumans, I mean Black Bolt’s voice can pulverize most anything so he will have to be a mute throughout the flick.
The money-maker is going to be Avengers: Infinity War. We’ve been clamoring for a Thanos throw down since the Avengers was first announced and more so when the Tesseract appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger. Marvel popped a reel on attendees at the conference and in it showed the lover of Death, literally, wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.
With Marvel’s slate filled to the brim with geeky goodness, what do you think geeks? Did anything get left out or is this enough to scratch that mad Marvel itch? Can we say DC who? Here’s the full logos for each of the movies:
Can we get even more pumped for this sequel? Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer leaked online Tuesday. The project being created by Marvel and Disney features the James Spader’s role as the villain, Ultron. It wasn’t supposed to be released until its debut during Agents of SHIELD on ABC airing next week. Even Marvel has attested to this leak via Twitter:
The sequel is set to be released on May 1, 2015.
**Edit: Due to the recent leak, Marvel has released the trailer in higher definition. Watch it here:
