Geeky Game Review: the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition (Xbox360)

As a non-PC\pro-console gamer, I’ve never had a chance to explore the world that Geralt of Rivia occupies. The engrossing story, mature content and sword slashing action has been appealing to me for longer than I can remember. When CD Projekt RED announced they would be bringing over the The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings to my beloved Xbox 360, I became a tad excited.

For those not familiar with the premise behind The Witcher, it follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a unique brand of monster hunter. Possessed with innate magical skills, Geralt hires himself out to anybody with a scary problem and sacks full of coin. Not quite human, not quite mage, Geralt lives within and outside many worlds. His life is full of moral choices, beautiful lasses and big shiny swords. Its been a well received game for the mouse and keyboard set but how does it translate to the land of controllers?

No way can I get into this review without first diving into the graphics. CDPR busted their collective humps to make The Witcher’s visuals pop for its Xbox outing. The world is alive during all hours of the day and it shows. Everything is crisp and clear, once the engine catches up with it all. There were times the game looked more like a first gen game than the powerhouse it is. I’m not knocking the game for it because plenty of AAA titles have the same problem, even when installed to the hard drive. But once they do kick in, prepare to be wowed. If you liked the look of Skyrim, you will love what you see in the Witcher.

The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 intro video hits a million views.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is coming to the Xbox 360. It’s coming soon and it’s no straight up port. Heading our way on April 17th, Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition is a full on adaptation of the popular PC RPG. CD Projekt RED has been working hard to bring the Witcher’s twisted story lines with 16 different endings over to consoles without sacrificing the gorgeous graphics the game is known for. By the view count of the latest trailer, I’d say plenty of gamers are ready for the game to grace consoles and soon.

The Witcher 2 once again tasks players to guide Geralt of Rivia, this time as he clears his name by finding the King of Temeria’s killer. Along the way Geralt will deal with a vast cast of characters that shapes how the game ends. The game has been a critical and commercial success thanks to its immersive story, gorgeous realistic world and fluid combat system. The Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 will sport the game on two DVDs, a soundtrack CD, a Quest Handbook to guide users both old and new and a map of the world. Also on tap will be a Dark Edition of the game, filled with extra goodies for your geeky needs. Adding to the Enhanced Edition, the Dark set brings a making of DVD, a trio of stickers, a Witcher medallion, a 200 page artbook – all tucked lovingly inside a custom made box emblazened with the Witcher wolf head.

Either version can be pre-ordered now at Best Buy, Amazon or Gamestop now. Hit the break, read up on the press release and watch that intro video.

The Witcher 2′s Powerful System Specs.

I’ve always been more of a console gamer, aside from the occasional MMO, but every once in awhile a PC game comes along and catches my attention. There will always be some PC time for me with games like Civilization or other sim/strategy type games. However, catching my attention currently is The Witcher 2. I never got around to playing the first game, but really wanted to considering all the good things I’ve heard.  So I’ve been following the development of Witcher 2 because of how much the first caught my attention.

Recently The Witcher 2 released it’s system spec requirements and I’ve got to say they are pretty rough and it shows they are not aiming for the casual PC gamer here. Your gonna need a serious gaming rig to full enjoy the beauty of this game. The Minimum requirements alone will alienate a good portion of people, but the recommended will down right kick you off the cliff of rejection.  I love my PC and even what I thought was a powerhouse will only make the minimum.
