Xbox Dashboard is live but what about the TV content?

Beacons, cloud saves, new UI, jeepers creeprs, oh my! Plenty to be excited about with Microsoft’s new and revamped dash. The one new addition that had gamers drooling was the upcoming inclusion of Xbox TV, a wealth of on-demand video destined to make the 360 a killer entertainment system. Most of us already knew about Hulu Plus and Netflix, using them extensively. However new apps were to crawl into our consoles to provide plenty of  eye popping shows. So where are they?

Where they are is slowly rolling out. When the new dash went live, it brought to us here in the United States the EpixHD, SyFy, DailyMotion and Today apps. Syfy so far has added some clips from its shows like Being Human and WWE Smackdown. Clips only folks. EpixHD is an extension of the pay-TV channel, allowing subscribers to watch tons of content from their media vault. Today is of course the Today Show and Daily Motion is an app that culls videos from the web and bundles them into interest channels to view right on the Xbox. PS3 Users To Get New 3.7 Firmware Update.

It’s been a while but Sony is issuing a new firmware update to the PS3. Numbered 3.7, this update will enhance the system with some cloud based saves and automatic trophy syncs. Enabled either in the XMB or the first time a game is booted is up, the feature will allow players to save their game automatically online to be picked up again on another machine at a later date. Trophys will now auto-sync online instead of waiting for gamers to maunally sync them with Sony’s servers. What could be the downside to this? Maybe the fact only members of PlayStation Plus get access to them. Yep, pretty lame indeed.

For us lesser beings, the update will grant us a new “TV/Video Services” spot on the XMB where services like Netflix and Hulu will now reside. Don’t confuse this with the Video slot which is where any videos purchased in the PS Store will hide. The PS Store will also get a recomendation feature, allowing gamers to tell friends about content they like in the Store. The console will also be getting some upgrades to the 3D playback capabilities of Blu-rays.
