If you are having trouble trying to find what to get that special person who loves their hobbies, here are my Top Gifts For That comic book geek in your life!
Thanks to the popularity of the Fox Batman prequel, Gotham, DC has gone ahead with plans for their next prequel series. It has now been confirmed that David S. Goyer is developing a new SyFy series called Krypton, a Superman prequel.
This new series is set on Superman’s home planet Krypton before he was born. It will center around the house of El before they were shamed. The series will follow the grandfather of Kal-El, and father of Jor-El as he tries to bring order to a planet of chaos and create a planet worthy of heroes.
They haven’t listed the character’s name, but as far as I know, the father of Jor-El would be Seyg-El. He was the leader of the Kryptonian Science Council and made his first comic appearance in World of Krypton (Volume 2) #3 in 1988, he has only made a limited amount of comic appearances.
The script will be written by veteran writer Ian Goldberg, who has penned Once Upon a Time, and Criminal Minds. Goyer is also known for his previous work on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Flash Forward. He will also he be an executive producer with David Goyer.
This is the eighth DC series that we know of. There are currently plans underway for Supergirl, Titans, and iZombie. While the ones already airing are Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and the up-in-the -air Constantine.
So far there has no further word on casting.
Back in October it was confirmed that Jason Momoa would be playing Aquaman. It has now been confirmed that the former Game of Thrones actor has signed on for four movies.
That means that Aquaman will likely appear in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League Part One, Justice League Part Two, and an Aquaman solo film, though only three of these movies appear in the IMDB filmography for the actor.
Batman vs. Superman and Justice League Part One are being directed by Mr. Zack Snyder, we can only assume that Justice League Part Two and Aquaman will be as well. However, maybe with the rapid fire expected release of the last few movies he might be too busy.
The Flash vs. Arrow! “They’re friends” you say….well from the looks of the extended trailer (below) for the two night comic book crossover event seem to show us differently! What could set off a showdown between these two popular heroes? Only watching the shows will we find out for sure. Who can come out on top…the man with the quickness or the man with the Quiver?!
Be sure to catch the two night crossover event. Will Barry Allen and Oliver Queen be on the same side or will Flash and Arrow have major differences of minds? If it’s one thing my fellow comic book geeks love is a good fight between two heroes to see just who is better! Though this Brave and the Bold two parter will have fireworks, I’m sure both men will end up in a team up which is all fine by this comic book nerd!!
News comes out from NBC about production halting on the new show Constantine based on the DC comics property. The cast learning of the fate of the show being halted was delivered to them on set this last Friday. The show has only aired 4 of its 13 episodes and I know PLENTY of fans that are happy with the show so far. So it’s just a mystery to me why in the world NBC would do such a thing. It’s not like NBC did the show any favors by giving it a 10 pm start time on a Friday after they spent countless millions on advertising before the show’s premiere. News of the cast also being on NBC’s Thanksgiving Day parade will sure make things a bit awkward to say the least.
While the news does seem dire and troubling to hear, I will warn my fellow comic book geeks that this is in NO WAY a death sentence for the first season TV show. The show is still in contention for a second season, just no new episodes ordered as of yet. The only other good news I can take out of this is that NBC has only given one other show a full season order so far from its lineups. I am very sure that fan support will not let this show get cancelled and if NBC is dumb enough to do that, plenty of other networks will line up to take it over!
Elseworld tales are known to DC Comic book fans as the fantasy “what if?” stories that can only be told in a setting outside of DC’s regular continuity. Thus giving the comic book creators a world in which to let their vastly talented imaginative minds access to unexplored reaches of some of our most beloved DC superheroes. Tails that could otherwise never have been told…..this is known as DC’s Elseworld! That being said, it sets the stage for this weeks edition of Recommended Comic Book Reading.
Superman: Red Son
One of my most favorite Superman tales hails from one of these Elseworld mini series and it is called “Superman: Red Son”. I will give you a brief description of this amazing series but I will also leave key spoilers out for your very own enjoyment because I am recommending you all to read these great comic books!
We knew he was going to be playing someone in something right? It has been a whole 15 minutes since I have seen a movie with “The Rock” in it. I kid, I kid. Looks like it is official that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be playing Black Adam in upcoming DC movies. I can see it. I was hoping for more of a mainstream character for someone with his acting ability but I can see him doing well with this role. So if “The Rock” is going to the be the villain ‘Black Adam’ who is he going to be facing as Shazam? Do you think he could have played someone different?
