Achievement whores have a new reason to be addicted this fall!

You know the type, they have 1000 gamerscore on Barbie’s Backyard Bonanza, Holly Hobby Horse House and Duke Nukem Forever; they’re achievement whores. They collect every cheeve for any game they can get their hands on. They’ll do anything to squeeze those last few points out – they boost, cheat, etc. to have 1,000/1,000 running down their list. And now Xbox is giving them even more reason to act like a serial killer out on the hunt for skulls.

Thanks to a recent milestone of gaining 50,000 Twitter (Achievement Unlocked!) followers, the Xbox Live Rewards account decided to tease the faithful by announcing there would soon be a way to get rewards based upon achievements! Whoop, whoop! Of course it’s only an early blip, the full details won’t be unleashed until later this year with the program kicking off this fall.

As of now, Xbox Live Rewards adds Microsoft Points to members’ accounts by doing things like renewing their Gold subscription, activating Netflix for the first time, taking surveys and the what not. Maybe earning a set amount of achievements during a month nets users a free bucket of MS funny money? Many long-term Gold members have long been complaining that the program is more rewarding for new players rather than the loyal peeps. It’s possible this is a way to rectify that wide-spread complaint and spread the love.

What say you Xbox geeks? Sound off in the comments after the break!

So many Microsoft rumors, so little time!

Rumors come and rumors go but it seems a fair amount of Microsoft rumors have been burning up the internet the last week or so. Kinect laptops, Microsoft Points, Xbox 720 and more have been swirling around heads and some seem just a bit out there. However that is what the internet is best for, that plus cat pictures and porn. Oh wait, I forgot trolling. Must never forget the trolls.

Let’s take a look at some of these rumors and I’ll toss out my opinion in regards to the likeliness of them seeing the light of day. My opinions are no way representative of Microsoft, just musing based upon my experiences.  We’ve heard four rumors to discuss ranging from “Plausible” to “Yeah F’N right” and all have that touch of “maybe, could it be?” to them. Except one, that one seems troll-made. Like a Troll House Rumor. Hit the break and let’s do this.

The best (and worst) games of 2011 – opinion 2.

As 2011 draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the year’s noteworthy games. You’ve already gotten one geek’s perspective and now I’m gonna throw my 2.5 cents down. It has definitely been a year of hits with Batman: Arkham City, Gears of War 3, Portal 2, The Witcher 2, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dead Rising 2, Dead Space 2…okay so we’ve had a lot of sequels this year! But we also got Deus Ex: Human Revolution (prequel, so it’s different), Bulletstorm, Brink, Child of Eden, and Dead Island among many more.

With so many releases, so many titles, what did we think was worthy of playing? What did we hate? I’m glad you asked because I’ve been dying to tell you! I’m gonna break it down for you as best as a manic geek like myself can. There’s the standard Game of the Year, console specific honors and even a solemn disappointment category. Ready for the festivities? Hit the jump and be prepared to yell!

The best (and worst) games of 2011

2011 has been a pretty epic year for video games. We’ve had enormous games like Skyrim and Arkham City, while on the other side of the coin there have been some awesome smaller, indie games like Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. And so, lets count down the very best and also the very worst games of this year!

Starting with the consoles:

PS3- This year has been a good year for PS3 with the likes of Little Big Planet 2 and KillZone 3 being released. But I think it is safe to say that the biggest and if not the best game for PS3 this year was Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog  produced a masterpiece here with phenomenal voice acting from the video game legend that is Nolan North. If you have been keeping up with gaming news Naughty Dog released a video for their new game The Last of Us, so stayed tuned here for more news on that.
