The Day We’ve all Planned for- Is the Zombie Apocalypse upon us?

One of the most bizarre and thoroughly disturbing headlines that have made the news recently was the story of the man in Miami who was found eating another man’s face. The policemen on the scene told the attacker to stop but the attacker merely raised his head and growled, then continued to eating his victim’s face. Despite being shot the cannibal attacker continued and it was only after a dozen shots fired by Miami police the attacker stopped, dead. The victim, missing 75% of his face, is now in hospital. Police are blaming the assault on cocaine psychosis but is there a more sinister, un-dead threat?

This is not the first story that has made the news that could point to a possible zombie outbreak. It should be said that this is just internet hypothesis but, via a viral post made by the tumblr blog “I Hope Rick Santorum…“,  it only takes a bit of imagination to put these stories together and suddenly you have the initial outbreak stories of a zombie apocalypse.

Why it’s relevant to geek culture is the fact that the girls meet their killer by chatting with him online and in the case of Megan eventually meets up with Josh who she thinks is a 17-year-old skater boy. It’s not the best movie I have seen but its most effective in showing the dark side of the Internet.

Megan Is Missing definitely got me thinking about the danger that lurks in the anonymity of the internet. I also recently stumbled across a few stories that exemplify the shadier side of the Internet that I thought would make interesting fodder for this weeks She-Geek column since both stories center around the female online predator.
