March’s prequel games not selling so hot.

According to analyst firm Cowen & Company, the hyped prequels for both God of War and Gears of War aren’t the selling juggernauts their previous games were. Gears of War: Judgement fared better than God of War: Ascension, selling 425,00 copies. Ascension diddled out a paltry 360,00 units. Compare that to Gears of War 3 knocking over 3 million out in its first week and God of War 3′s first month’s sales of just over 1 million.
The Tomb Raider reboot and the critically praised Bioshock Infinite however are doing much better according to estimates. Tomb Raider has managed to get into the hands of 696,000 hands in March while Infinite has 665,000 copies out the door in a mere 10 days.
Could this be a sign for the recently announced Batman: Arkham Origins? It too will be a prequel game, handled by a different developer. Both Arkham games have done a stellar sales job but are gamers sick of prequels? Or was March just too packed with other quality titles? Or was it too many GoW games? Let us know what you think in the comments after the break!
Gears of War: Judgement – Review
Last Updated on Wednesday, 27 March 2013 03:51 Written by smokydaburr Wednesday, 27 March 2013 03:51
Gears of War: Judgement is the newest edition to the Gears family and is set before the events of the trilogy, following the events directly after Emergence Day. It follows Kilo squad which is the home of Baird and Cole from the original games as well as introducing two new people, Paduk and Sofia. All of whom you will play as during the campaign learning about each character as they tell their testimony through game progression.
Being an avid Gears fan having followed the story from the beginning in Aspho Fields during the Pendulum Wars to the end in Azura, it was nice to be able to play and see what happened with some of the characters before they were the saviors we expected. Having said that I know I may seem biased and that I will not be giving a fair review, but this game has quite a few downfalls so hear me out. I will keep this as spoiler free as possible.
COGs, Gear up! New Gears of War to be unveiled at E3!

You didn’t really think Epic was done with the Gears of War world, did you? Good because Game Informer just dusted off a preview of their next issue and it reveals what every fan hoped for – more Gears! The cover has some of Locust flying around being annoying as usual and a couple of COG soldiers framing a shadowed handcuffed man. Who is that mysterious prisoner?
Since the end of Gears 3, many a fan has been clamoring for the next iteration of the revered series to be a prequel and focus on the Pendulum Wars. Detail oriented players know that time period is when Marcus made a name for himself and ended up in the clink. The same clink Dom (MARIA!) busted his BFF out of at the beginning of Gears of War.
Other than the cover, no more details have been let loose, let’s be honest though, all it takes IS a cover to get fans in a frothing frenzy. Stay tuned geeks, E3 is next week and Game Informer promises Monday will reveal even more, including another cover(!) and a teaser video. Oh yeah and I’m sure Microsoft and Epic might have something to tell us next week too. Sound off geeks, happy or not? Frantic or cucumber cool? Hit the break and use those comments!
New Gears of War 3 DLC, Fenix Rising, hits in January.

Epic promised to fill us up on Gears of War 3 DLC and they’re keeping it flowing. RAAM’s Shadow just dropped and now we’re looking at the newest pack coming next month. Dubbed Fenix Rising, this one is full on multiplayer love! Adding five new maps based on spots from the Gears 3 campaign, four new MP skins and a new level up system to keep players going past the level 100 cap. The Re-up, as it’s called, will wipe the XP and rank of players who choose to go further and let them obtain new ranks and perks. Re-ups can be done four successive times, each time grants a new rank icon and weapon skin. For the hoarder out there, these skins are only available through this dedicated sacrifice.
Each of the new maps take places familiar to Gears 3 vets and mixes them up for good old fashioned blood letting. Beating your buddies down can happen in Marcus Fenix’s childhood home, the decadence of Prescott’s hidden Azura or even in the walls of Anvil Gate. If you’re looking to spice up those boring MP skins, you can bounce your foes with the Thrashball Cole, Recruit Clayton, Savage Kantus or Savage Marauder. Available January 17th, the Fenix Rising pack can be purchased for 800 Microsoft Points or free for those of us who grabbed the Season Pass. If you’re counting, this is number three of the promised four packs for said pass. Hit the jump and check the full skinny on the new pack heading our way.
