Comic Book Fix: The Ethics of the Industry

The comic book community has been abuzz since last week after Comics Alliance contributor David Brothers posted an opinion piece about why he felt he could no longer purchase comics from either Marvel or DC. In a post titled “The Ethical Rot Behind ‘Before Watchmen’ & ‘The Avengers’” Brothers lays out a scathing indictment of both companies for what he calls “exploitative and unjust practices.” He is referring primarily to DC’s attitude toward Watchmen creator Alan Moore and Marvel’s treatment of Jack Kirby, the man who co-created most of the characters featured in next month’s blockbuster Avengers film.

Comic Book Fix: ‘Ghost Rider’ Creator Ordered to Pay Marvel $17K

This week a federal judge ordered “Ghost Rider” creator Gary Friedrich to pay Marvel Comics $17,000 in damages, the culmination of a four year legal battle over ownership of the flame-headed, motorcycle-riding spirit of vengeance.

I love getting my week going with some sick new trailers, especially ones that get me geek-cited! Despite the criticism, I really dug the first Ghost Rider flick. I know there were some issues plot-wise and all that jazz but still, the Rider was on the big screen! Some fans didn’t care for Nic Cage but I didn’t mind it. He WAS trying to be Superman so this was a hell of a lot better in my eyes.
In the sequel, Blaze is battling more of the demon scum with an emphasis of stopping the arrival on the Anti-Christ. I’m thinking this one is going to be less sappy drama and more balls to the walls action with just a bit of touchy feely included. After watching Drive Angry, I have to say Cage is really rocking the bad ass role too. Maybe he’s funneling his inner wacko into these roles again? Watch the trailer, me thinks you geeks will agree. Oh and the kid he has to save? His name is Danny, could that be Danny Ketch a.k.a Ghost Rider 2.0 from the comics? That would be geeky awesome!

The Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Trailer Is Looking Hot! [VIDEO]

The next film in the Ghost Rider franchise is looking like a full on action fest! I was a fan of the first Ghost Rider but wanted a bit more vengeancing going on in the flick and the sequel looks to be taking care of that. Ghosty always seemed to be underplayed in the Marvel Universe to me, like they didn’t want him kick as much posterior as the other supers. Let the Rider loose I say! Watch the sparks fly as the wicked are punished!
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is set to release this February in theaters and still stars Nic Cage. Say what you about Nutty Nic but I would much rather he be in the sequel than another Marvel movie change the lead actor, I’m looking at you Hulk! Not much of the plot can be gleaned from the trailer but plot be damned, I’m going to watch it! We’ve got a couple pics for you as well to check out so hit the jump and absolve all your sins!
