Everyone’s Favorite Search Engine Is Being Attacked…By The Senate

It’s not everyday that we talk about politics here on DHTG but when the issue is something that hits so close to home, how can we not. Just last December, Google came under fire from folks over in Europe for anti-trust issues and now, thanks to Utah Senator, Republican Mike Lee, they may face fire back home. Senator Lee has called for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary’s antitrust subcommittee, saying that Google is abusing its power as the most popular search engine on the web.

Gmail Restores Access To 1/3 Of The Reset Accounts

The other day we posted an article that said about 500,000 Gmail users lost all access to their accounts and when they were finally able to log back in, everything was deleted. Google recalculated some of their figures today, saying that only about ”0.02% of Google Mail users” were affected and the problem will ”be resolved for everyone within 12 hours.” Overall, roughly 38,000 users were affected, as of right now they are only able to log back in, though their emails and attachments are still missing. Google claims that their engineers are working on fixing these issues and will hopefully be able to restore the users old information.

Gmail Accidentally Resetting Accounts, Back Up Often!

Almost 500,000 Gmail users have reported that their accounts have been reset, it started this morning when they were not able to log in for some reason, then a few hours later, they were able to log in but everything was gone. Years of emails, attachments and even Google Talk logs simply disappeared. These users were greeted the usual Welcome screen when they finally logged in and were being treated like new accounts. Google says the problem ”affects less than .29% of the Google Mail userbase,” and their engineers are currently working on finding the source. They also said that missing messages would be retrieved as soon as possible. We recommend backing up your Gmail accounts if you have anything important, just to be safe.

Add Contact Avatars To Gmail Using SocialGmail

A new Google Chrome extension called SocialGmail adds your contact thumbnails to your Gmail inbox. I don’t know about you, but I hate going through all my emails and not seeing a single avatar anywhere in there. It’s so much easier to look at the persons picture and know who it’s from then to read their emails or names or whatever you guys read. It just seems like it would be a lot easier to see groups of messages sent by the same person than by reading their names. It is currently a free extension and works will all versions of Chrome.
