Prototype 2 gets sweet pre-order bonus in form of the Radnet Edition!

Prototype was one of those games that either you played it or you knew someone who did. The open world, horror style game had high aspirations but fell a bit short of the mark. Still though the game did well enough and garnered enough support to push forth on a sequel. The continued story of the Blacklight Virus and Alex Mercer‘s involvement, Prototype 2 shifts focus to the brand new Sgt. James Heller. Infected by Mercer with the virus, Heller is hell-bent on destroying the original monster man, the man responsible for death of his family! P2 looks to up the ante on the original while fixing some of the issues players had with it.

Activision let loose details on an ambitious pre-order bonus for Prototype 2. Named the Radnet Edition, the pack is chock full of 55 pieces of content spread out over a seven week period starting at the game’s launch. Spanning over events, friend challenges and weekly themed rewards, Radnet will cover players with goodies like Behind the Scenes videos, Xbox Live avatar add-ons, PS3 themes and additional mutations for Heller. All that just for putting in your pre-order at no additional cost.  But wait, that’s not all! Well technically it is but there is one more piece of info. If for some reason you miss out on pre-ordering the game, several launch copies will also be the Radnet version. Yep, not content with tossing out a bunch of freebies, Radical and Activision are letting those stragglers get in on the action. Available only while supplies last, it’s a nice way appease both sides of the fence here. Hit the break, check out the press release and let us know how you feel about the Radnet Edition.

Prtottype 2 is scheduled to release on April 24th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and July 24th for the PC. Read more: Prototype 2 gets sweet pre-order bonus in form of the Radnet Edition!

What’s Prototype 2 Gonna Be Like? Sit Down I’ve Got A Tale For You

Prototype was a fun yet underrated game in my opinion. Most of the negative reaction it received seemed to be squarely aimed at the graphics bringing it’s total score down very low. The truth is Prototype had a pretty good story and some extremely fun gameplay. Prototype would have been much better reviewed had it come out further apart from Infamous, but the games were too similar and it drew too many comparisons between the games and the more flawed game got the short end of the stick.

Now with Prototype 2 on the way the developers are planning on fixing the mistakes of the original and aiming for a 2012 release.

In Prototype 2 sadly you will end up not playing the same character of Alex Mercer. Instead Radical Entertainment has opted to use another character and have Alex Mercer merely grant powers to the new character. You will be playing Sgt. James Heller a man who lost everything in the original infection from the heinous virus attack on the city. Alex Mercer decides that Heller should gain his powers and be the new anti-hero taking over for Mercer.

While trying to solve a lot of the problems from the game Radical decided the story in the first game was a bit complicated and decided to make it appeal to a wider audience. That is the bad news, it’s never good to see a story drummed down for mass appeal. The good news is that they plan to keep the same open world action oriented game play from the first game. They also plan to touch up the minor glitches and graphical flaws for Prototype 2 as well. Given that the only serious complaint from the first game was it’s graphics that’s fantastic news.
