Update: Another one leaves! Co-Sponsors abandon SOPA and PIPA!

Update: Pennsylvania Representative Tim Holden has also pulled his support for SOPA! Read all about it here! Keep it up geeks!

Are the protests actually making headway through the thick skulls of our elected officials? It feels that way as Senator Mark Rubio from Florida pulled his support of PIPA today and late yesterday, Arizona Representative Ben Quayle removed his support for SOPA.

As a senator from Florida, a state with a large presence of artists, creators and businesses connected to the creation of intellectual property, I have a strong interest in stopping online piracy that costs Florida jobs.

However, we must do this while simultaneously promoting an open, dynamic Internet environment that is ripe for innovation and promotes new technologies – Sen Rubio via Facebook

Rubio went on to ask his co-sponsor, Senator Harry Reid of Arizona (what is it with Arizona politicians?) to end the bill “take more time to address the concerns raised by all sides, and come up with new legislation that addresses Internet piracy while protecting free and open access to the Internet”

Beyond those two key proponents, Texas Senator John Cornyn took to Facebook to pull his support for SOPA;

SOPA: better to get this done right rather than fast and wrong. Stealing content is theft, plain and simple, but concerns about unintended damage to the internet and innovation in the tech sector require a more thoughtful balance, which will take more time.

It’s also being reported that a spokesman for Nebraska Representative Terry Lee will be abandoning his support for SOPA and an announcement will be forthcoming from him very soon.

Have the angry masses finally gotten the message to Washington or is this just more corrupt politicians backpedaling to keep their jobs? Keep it tuned geeks, we’ll stay here till the end!
